Laura and Leisa Stover, 21 and 18 at the time of this LP, are from Montpelier, Ohio and started playing music and singing when they were young. The LP was recorded Sweetwater Studios in Fort Wayne, Indiana and was pressed at Eagle One Productions in Cincinnati, Ohio. According to the insert included with the LP they were working on material for another LP but I can't find any information about whether or not it ever materialized. They were also part of a larger family band called The Stovers, active from 1982-1995, and they released at least one album in 1990.

Ledford Family, The - Songs We Loves To Sing & Play

Folk | Tennessee | 1972

The Ledford Family was a folk/traditional music family band led by renowned dulcimer maker Homer Ledford. Homer Ledford grew up in Tennessee and crafted many musical instruments throughout his life, including banjos, guitars, dulcimers, and mandolins. Some of his creations have been on display at The Smithsonian Institution. In addition to crafting instruments and performing with his family band, Homer founded and led the bluegrass group The Cabin Creek Band, who released at least one LP in the early 1980s. Homer passed away in 2006 and was given an honorary Doctor of Humanities from Eastern Kentucky University in 2006. You can check out Homer's old website at www.homerledford.com

Also featured on this LP are Homer's daughters Cindy and Julia. They were 13 and 11, respectively, at the time of this recording. As far as I can tell neither of them went on to have musical careers.

In addition to The Ledford Family, Floyd and Edna Ritchie Baker appear on a few tracks from this LP. They were a performing dulcimer and singing duo, and Edna was a member of The Ritchie Family Of Kentucky, which also included her legendary sister Jean Ritchie.

Longard, George - Why Am I The One

Country | Canada | 1960s

1960s LP by Canadian country singer George Longard, released on Banff Records.

From the Nova Scotia Country Music Hall Of Game website:

"George Longard was raised on country music in Nova Scotia, Canada. Before the advent of television, in the small village of Bayside where he grew up, each evening almost every living room would come alive with the sweet sounds of fiddle and guitar music. His Mo1n & Dad, his sisters and George performed regularly at the local community halls.

Early into his singing career, he was invited to entertain on one of the radio stations in Halifax Nova Scotia, about twenty miles from Bayside. From there he went on to make appearances with C.B.C. Television on the Don Messer Show, a very popular Sunday night Variety Show that featured Don and his unique style of Down East fiddle playing. This show drew a television audience of around ten million people.

Throughout his life, George has been singing and playing guitar on stage and in clubs and enjoying every moment.

Over 100 of his many recordings features a duo of George and his good buddy the legendary Tex Emery, on steel guitar. Tex and he have laughed their way through many a recording session bouncing off of each other's one liners.

Each year George looks forward to performing at the annual Hank Snow Tribute, a Country Music Extravaganza, held in Nova Scotia, Hank's birthplace. George feels that it is truly a pleasure to have had the opportunity to perform with great Nashville artists such as Kayton Roberts and Roger Carroll, Hank's own Rainbow Ranch Boys."

Lord Cody And The Coralites - Sail Out

Calypso | Bahamas | 1967

Lord Cody and The Coralites' 1967 LP Sail Away, released in the Bahamas on Elite Records Ltd.

There is little information online about Lord Cody and The Coralites. From the back cover of the LP jacket:

"This is the most welcome long play album on the Bahamas musical scene, because Alvin Sweeting (Lord Cody) and his Coralites are the originators of the "hully gully" beat which transformed Bahamian music in the past decade. This popular all-Bahamian team of musicians started their career as a group in 1959 and they were the first ever to play music with an off-beat, frequently called bastard calypso. This album is entirely representative of the original, authentic, and real interpretation of Bahamian music as played by the master musicians, the Coralites, who as musical ambassadors of the Bahamas have performed in such faraway places as "The Hawaiian Village", "Hilton Hotel, Honolulu Hawaii 1962"; "The Cruiser Club", "Hampton Bays, New York, 1964", and numerous private parties and club dates in Florida.

Lord Cody and his Coralites are among the most popular entertainers the Bahamas has ever produced; and they have become recognized through their engagements at "The Big Bamboo Club; "Buena Vista", "British Colonial Hotel", "Emerald Beach Hotel", "Coral Harbour Club", "Cat and Fiddle Club", "Tropic Bird Catamaran" and other major resorts and entertainment spots in New Providence.

Lord Cody and his Coralites have been attracting record crowds at the Ba Ma, in the heart of downtown, historic, and quaint Nassau since December 1966, and the selections on this album are those which have been most frequently requested at the Ba Ma. David Smith (Kasavubu), 28 years old is at the peak of his 10 year professional career as maraccas artist and lead singer of the Coralites. It is his showmanship, agility, and joviality which makes him excellent on vocals such as "Jamaica Farewell", "Mary Ann", "Island in the Sun", "Yellow Bird", "Papa Jack", and "Wedding Bells". He composed "Wedding Bells". Wendell Higgs, (Valiant Wendell), 26 plays distinctive and delightful lead guitar. He sings "Uncle Joe", and solos in "Apache" and throughout the album. Osmond Roach, (Ossie) 22 is a keen bass guitarist whose ambition is to become the best and most versatile in his field.

Alvin Sweeting, (Lord Cody) 27 is widely known as king of The Congo Drums. You'll enjoy his vocal renditions as well as his Congo drumming in "Anoche", "Angelina", "China Gate", and "I Don't Want to be Hurt Anymore". This is one record which will sell as fast as Elite can press them."

Lynn, Judy - Honey Stuff

Country | 1966

Country singer Judy Lynn's 1966 LP Honey Stuff, released on Musicor Records.

From MusicRow.com:

"Judy Lynn recorded more than a dozen albums and had hit singles with such titles as “Footsteps of a Fool” (1962) and “My Secret” (1963). She was also renowned as the most flamboyantly costumed country star of her generation.

Born Judy Lynn Voiten in 1936, she was the daughter of bandleader Joe Voiten. Raised in rural Idaho, she was an authentic cowgirl who could rope and ride at an early age.

She first performed in public at age 10. Blonde and blue-eyed, she was named Queen of the Snake River Jamboree in 1952. The following year, she was crowned America’s Champion Yodeler. She competed as Miss Idaho in the 1955 Miss America contest and finished as a runner-up.

In 1957, she was chosen to co-host the first national Grand Ole Opry network telecast. She also became a frequent guest on Jimmy Dean’s network television show. During her heyday in the 1960s she had her own syndicated TV series.

She signed with ABC-Paramount Records in 1957. Although she had no notable successes with the label, Billboard named her its Most Promising Female Country Singer later that same year. United Artists Records signed Ms. Lynn in 1962. Produced by Pappy Dailey, she had a top-10 hit that year with “Footsteps of a Fool.” She wrote two of her other hits for the label, “My Secret” and “My Father’s House.”

She became a tireless entertainer for the troops, making many USO tours overseas. She also began headlining at The Golden Nugget in Las Vegas. She settled in that show-business capital and eventually graduated to starring at Caesar’s Palace. Ms. Lynn appeared with Eddy Arnold, Red Foley, Elvis Presley, Rex Allen, Eddie Fisher, Gene Autry, Ferlin Husky and other top stars of her era.

Her album jackets illustrate her eye-popping visual flair. Ms. Lynn performed in elaborately tooled cowgirl boots in vivid colors to match her skin-tight stretch slacks and figure-hugging blouses. She was clad in electric-blue leather, shimmering purple lamé, green gabardine embellished with shiny gold or silver flowers, rhinestone bedecked crimson polyester or blouses with metallic sleeve fringe, always topped by matching kerchiefs at the throat and highly decorated cowgirl hats atop her gleaming golden tresses.

She moved to Musicor Records in 1966. By then, she had expanded from her Vegas base to also headline in the casinos of Reno and Lake Tahoe.

She was produced by Frank Jones on Columbia Records in 1969, then returned to the charts with Alex Harvey’s song “Married to a Memory” on the independent Amaret label in 1971. Her last charted single was 1975’s “Padre” on Warner Bros. Records.

Ms. Lynn was married to musician Jack Kelly. In 1980, she abruptly quit show business to become an ordained minister."

Judy Lynn passed away in 2010.
